4 Ways to Transform Your Home Decor into a Luxury Winter Retreat

It’s winter and let’s be real, all you want to do is stay home and hibernate. This is the perfect time to convert your home decor into a luxurious oasis that you can enjoy alone, or with loved ones.

Settle in, because, in this post, we’ll be discussing four simple tips on how to elevate your home into the ultimate winter retreat. Trust me, after this, you’ll never want to leave!

Liven Your Space with Plants

Up the home decor by putting plants into the bedroom

It might be a blizzard outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be surrounded by beautiful greenery indoors. One of my personal favourite ways to add warmth to any room is through plants or a bouquet of fresh flowers.

Traditionally, plants are often found in living rooms, or outdoors in gardens during the spring and summer seasons. This winter, try introducing them to other areas of your house such as your bedroom, kitchen and even your bathroom…if you’re lucky enough to get natural sunlight in there. Placing green plants in a room not only helps lift your mood, but also helps keep the air clean, and reduces carbon dioxide levels.

There are plenty of low maintenance plants out there if you want the luxury of having plants but don’t have a green thumb. Snake plants, ZZ plants, fiddle leaf-fig, and monstera plants are all beautiful, do well in low light areas, and don’t require a lot of watering.

For a glam look, spoil yourself with a bouquet of fresh flowers. A vase of fresh flowers feels like the ultimate touch of luxury on a bedside table or on your dining room table. It’s such an easy and inexpensive way to dress up your home.

The Power of Scent

Your interior can get a sprucing up by adding scents

Diffusing essential oils, lighting a candle, burning incense, or placing reed diffusers in your favourite spot of your house, can transform your home to a luxurious oasis with minimal effort.

There are so many ways to elevate even the simplest act to a more luxurious experience thanks to the power of scent.

In the bathroom, try spraying an essential oil mist before a shower. Mists can leave you feeling rejuvenated or relaxed depending on the type of oil you choose. Seriously, this stuff works wonders, and can make even the quickest shower into a mini spa getaway.

Light your favourite candle when you curl up with a good book on the couch or get some relaxing essential oils going in a diffuser before bed. Lavender is a classic scent that helps soothe and relax before bed.

The point is to elevate your sensory experience with scent and make home feel like the coziest place to be when it’s too cold to be outdoors.

Lighting

Alternative lighting can considerably change the dynamics of your home interior

Multiple light sources in a room allow options in terms of creating ambiance.

If you haven’t already, try installing a dimmer in your favourite rooms of your home. Overhead lights without one can be too harsh sometimes, but a dimmer switch can easily fix that.

Alternative lighting like a sconce next to your bedside table, or couch, can offer a comfortable reading light at night.

Create a statement in your living room with a wild and unexpected floor lamp that feels like a piece of art. I saw one the other day that was shaped like a palm tree. It was bronze and about six feet tall and instead of feeling gaudy, it felt like a super glamorous art piece. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box!

Textiles

Dress up your living room decor with a sofa and throw

A beautiful throw can dress up your living room sofa, your bed, or act as a blanket when the temperatures outside reach below zero. My advice, splurge on a 100% wool Icelandic blanket that’s not only cozy but comes in an array of beautiful patterns. Wool is breathable, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and can last a lifetime.

Rugs are another great way of warming up a space, and there’s nothing better than placing one under your bed. Just the thought of getting out of bed in the morning and feeling a cozy rug under your feet is luxury in itself.

For a more relaxed boho vibe that still feels super luxurious, try layering rugs and while you’re at it, add some throw pillows to the mix and a sheepskin rug to break up the textures. The overall feel is beyond cozy and everyone will love it!
